Teamster History
For over a century, the Teamsters Union has helped millions of American workers achieve the American dream in communities across the nation. Teamsters are the largest, most diverse union in the nation, representing workers in all industries in the United States and Canada. Formed in 1903, Teamsters sought to be the model for workers everywhere and assure that workers are treated with dignity, respect and equality. Representing the backbone of American workers, Teamsters stood together and went up against corporate America and fought for the rights and privileges that today most Americans take for granted; such as weekends, pensions, safer working conditions, higher wages, and basic worker rights.
A labor union is an organization that engages in collective bargaining with an employer to protect workers’ economic status and working conditions. The aim is to ensure fair wages, benefits, and working conditions for union members. Unions fight everyday for workers and help millions achieve the American dream, investing in communities and people, making positive changes and transforming lives.
